I've Got to Turn This Thing Around

5 things I'm thankful for this week:

Mom's birthday went pretty smooth!  

We had the best dinner last night (and she loves all her presents, yay).

I have a NaNoWriMo plan.

I might not stick to it, but it makes me feel like it's more accomplishable.

I feel pretty good about my progress even if I am a little behind.

I'm writing everything out first and then typing it.  

(I know it may take more time, but I can't write successfully on my computer.)

I'm super thankful for David Holt helping me out at an event for Click.

I really wish I had taken a photo of David in action, but hindsight is always 20-20.

Having a super busy and yet super successful Saturday.

And having the best spot to take senior pictures didn't hurt either.

I Know How It Works, I'm Not Dumb

     Exhausted but loving everything local.

     I've been blogging over on "The Front Porch" so check it out.  Also, you should think about entering in the Mammogram Giveaway.  (You never know who could win...)
     Sometimes I fall in love with songs that have nothing to do with my current life.  Somehow I feel like I can relate, but I tend to fall more in love with the voice combined with the rest of the things that compose a song.  When this happens, I wish that the lyrics would be changed or something.  And sometimes I don't quite understand what the artist is trying to say with the lyrics until after I've already fallen in love with it.  This pretty much taints the song (as common sense would dictate), but once I love a song, it will always have a place in my heart.  (Then again, the song I was talking about just might be about what I thought it was...)

That's Cool, But If My Friends Ask Where You Are I'm Gonna Say

     I've been a busy, busy bee.  Yesterday I traveled all over the upper part of Mississippi gathering items for Click's Fall Fashion shoot coming up (for our October issue, but it's happening like now). Then I took a few senior pictures for a family friend around the Collierville square.  Finally I attended the Literacy is Key Author Reveal party.  It was awesome.  There are some pretty amazing authors speaking at the event in January.  The line up is Courtney Miller Santo (an up and coming Memphisian), Claire Cook (author of Must Love Dogs, the novel), and Mary Kay Andrews (a name many of y'all are probably already familiar with).

     I saw this music video this morning and the song has been stuck in my head ever since.  I love it.  I love the Mexican influence (instruments) plus who doesn't sometimes feel this way after a break-up?  I definitely think Train has the right idea making this their next single.  It's just so dang catchy. They also know how to make some pretty awesome lyrical statements.  (My mom was unable to attend the Kappa function with me... so I guess that relates... weak, I know.)

If This Would Be a Perfect World

     Yesterday, September 12, Apple released the new designs for the iPhone 5. The photos on the website are rather sleek. It's supposed to be smaller (thinner really) than its brothers, but who can really tell from the photographs and drawn out dimensions? Not me. What I can tell is that the glossy glass has taken on more of a matte look and the universal USB that connects to so many of our Apple products is being replaced.  Instead of using a USB, iPhones are now going to use Thunderbolt.  Thunderbolt was introduced with the MacBook Pros starting in 2011.  It is supposed to be the fastest connection available.  While the world is getting used to having to use a Thunderbolt connection for their iPhones you can buy a converter that will allow you connect accessories you already have that require the special iPhone/iPad 30-pin plug-in (I think that's the correct terminology but I could be wrong.)  There are tons of other little major upgrades that Apple has made to the iPhone.   Shoot panoramas (with an even better camera), LTE data network capability, a bigger and better retina display, a map system that is more like a real GPS (it can talk and detail your turns), a more intelligent Siri, and of course new headphones (that re-imagine the way you listen to music).  Plus you can get the iPhone in black or white the first day it comes out!  No more waiting another year for them to come out with a new color.  If you're ready for this new phone, you'll have to wait until September 21 (but that's not too far away).

     Today is Mary Kay's 50th anniversary, that's a huge milestone.  In order to celebrate right, Sondra (my boss) had me make up flyers for a sale of which I'm pretty proud.  I love being able to use my talents at both of my jobs.  Plus once I finish a task like this one, I'm satisfied that I did a good job.  (I think I'm pretty much a closet perfectionist.)

She Don't Know What She Wants to Be

     After being a working girl for all of two days, let me just tell you.  I don't know how people do it.  I especially don't know how people work all day jobs, raise kids, do anything besides work.  I'm exhausted.  All I want to do when I get home is read for just a little bit and then sleep.  That's it.  But then again, I haven't really been extremely careful to spread out my snacks throughout the day so that I can have some fuel to get me through it.  I'm going to be more aware next week about taking snacks (and lunch) with me to work and seeing if that helps any.  And I just might try and drink more water because I know that can help too.
     Speaking of work, I can't wait for October to get here.  (We're working on our October issue so I have a bunch of information that I can't wait to share with you, but only once we're in October.)  If you haven't checked out Click's September issue, you really should.  Also, a Click photographer was in attendance at the Healing Hearts Child Advocacy Center Painting Party (from this post) and now has a gallery up where you can purchase prints.  There are also a good many other galleries up on that site as well, if you're interested or have been to a function that was photographed by Click recently.
     If you haven't yet noticed yet, I'm a bit of a romantic.  I build these images up in my head.  Sometimes the real world lives up to it, sometimes it doesn't.  But other times, the image I had doesn't even come close to what I thought it would be so I don't really end up linking the two together.  If I could accurately or even adequately explain anything (and everything) that went on in my head I think I could have already written my novel by now.  Then again, explaining how I think is very different from  explaining what I think.  Both seem to be at the very least irregular, in a good way.  Of course, who gets to say what is normal anyway?  We're all a little strange.

Set Your Intentions Dream With Care

     My second first day as an intern at Click magazine was a success!  But now I'm exhausted and a little headachy.  Tomorrow is going to be even longer.  One thing though, if you haven't seen Despicable Me, you should.  It's super cute and funny.  I love all of the cartoon movies that are made nowadays because they are for all generations (The Lorax is another one of those).
     We finished painting one of the windows that we had planned on painting.  The whole process was a little more difficult than we had first imagined but I think the end result turned out pretty well.

All By Myself

     The thing I love most about finding a different song for each of my posts is that it forces me to find new music.  Honestly, sometimes I completely hate it for one reason or another.  Usually the reason is I can't find a song that I like that fits the blog post and I just want to go to bed.  Other times though, like right now, I can't wait until I can blog again so I can share this amazing band with you.
     I wish there was a genre for this band that I could type in so I would get more bands like this one.  They are completely unique in that in one of their CDs they have so many different sounds.  All of their songs are fun and you can tell that they are doing this because they love it, not for the fame or the money (okay, maybe a little for both, but mostly because they love it).  I just found on youtube a playlist of "officially unofficial music videos, hand-made, band-made by Walk the Moon without a film crew or a budget."  That quote was taken directly from the description of their "7in7" playlist, where they made 7 videos (in 7 days) while on tour in order to promote their upcoming self-titled album.  I've shared some of their music on here before after I stumbled across Anna Sun and then came back for more with Shiver Shiver (although I should have used the music video featured below as it is so much better than the live version).  I finally downloaded their whole CD and man are there some jems on the album.  I can't stop listening to the song that the title of this post is named after, mostly because of the different rounds in the chorus.  I want to find more bands like this one.  If you know of any, please pretty please let me know.  I'd be forever in your debt.   I also just found out that they are going to be in Nashville on a Tuesday which makes me super sad because who would miss work to go with me?

     I had my first day of an internship at Click Magazine (in DeSoto County) today, but I'm going back on Tuesday to have my second first day.  I'm extremely proud of my outfit so I had to share.

And If You Don't Know What to Make of This Then We Will Not Relate

     I am exhausted.  You wouldn't think so since I only worked a few hours this evening, but Mom and I did a good bit of stuff before I actually went to work.  We went to Hank of Yarn to get all of the materials for our blanket projects we're about to start.  (I adore going to yarn stores, I pick up more yarn than I really need... everything is just so beautiful.)  Then to Nebco to pick up framed art for my wall!  I can't wait to share the final wall (it might be a little while, though).  The picture I had framed is black and white, even if it doesn't look like it in the photograph.  We also rearranged the game room (well it was more Mom who did the actual work since I can't lift anything heavy after my neck adjustments).
     At work tonight, Sondra gave me a facial!  I knew I would like the Mary Kay products just by hearing all of the women talk about them.  But I love the way they make my face feel!  Usually my face is super dry (but the products made my face feel so wonderful).  I took my picture just to show you how amazing these products are.  And how pretty they made me look.  But the setting might have blown out my skin a little so it's pretty much pointless.  Which is why I didn't add it in.  I'm trying to make sure I have at least a picture a day.  Eventually, I think I might try and make a book of some sort with all of my photos.  But that's just one of those crazy thoughts floating around in my head.

Trust the Promises of the Change I'll Show

     Today has been incredibly busy.  I feel like this week my days have either been relax/easy days or busy/completely full days.  Lucky for me these days have been alternating recently.  Which gives me days to recuperate after my extremely chocked-full-to-the-brim days.  Nice, right?  Yeah, well I'm really looking forward to tomorrow.  So I'm just going to post my day in pictures.
     Okay, so now that I'm going through my photos, I don't have any pictures of my busy day.  Just pictures of the breaks I took in between with the dogs.  The one picture I do have is my workspace for using Mod Podge for the first time to cover the labels on bottles so that the weather might have a harder time corroding the labels (while on my parent's bottle tree).  I also babysat tonight, but for some reason my phone just stopped working.  I didn't get it fixed until everyone had been put to bed and I had a moment to myself (hence the only picture is the picture of their adorable, lovable dog).
