I've been extremely apprehensive about how Jack would take to Oscar throughout this whole process of finding a close-ish breeder online, picking a puppy, arranging to get him, finally holding him in my arms, and then taking him home. I wasn't too worried about how I could handle raising him (after all I'm living at home so I will have the very knowledge guidance of my parents)... Okay so I was a little worried. But mostly I was worried about how Jack was going to handle a new puppy and having the attention taken away from him. (He chases the cat away any chance he gets even if the cat is miles away, if Dante is in sight he's probably going to get chased.) And maybe I didn't give Jack enough credit.
Today didn't give me too much hope. Jack actually growled at Oscar for having his (Oscar's) puppy nylabone next to him. That was a few hours before Jack completely destroyed Oscar's bone. And I was about to ask y'all advice about how to help two dogs get along because Jack was walking around the garage trying to hoard his bones. He tried to put both bones in his mouth and when that didn't work he would walk around the garage with one of the bones in his mouth whining and then put it down and get the other one. All the while Oscar was definitely not allowed to touch either bone... Jack growled every time he got close to either bone. BUT then (I guess since he was being ignored) he offered Oscar the bone (well he came up to the two of us and dropped his bone). And he just let Oscar pounce on top of his bone and go to town playing. I rewarded him pretty well. So right now I'm about to burst with happiness because Jack and Oscar are kind of sort of starting to build a relationship.
I was expecting to hear growling but I didn't!
Besides worrying about every little bark I hear out of Oscar when I'm inside, today was mostly filled with painting (and laundry). I know go me right? I've been working on decorations for a women's luncheon at my church on Sunday. Because I want the decorations to be a surprise I'm not going to really post any photographs of my project (but I might could throw in just a sneak peek, I'll see what I can manage). I put together two small collages with pictures from my phone, so sorry if they aren't the best quality. The downside of me using my DSLR a good bit of the time now is that I want every detail to show and sometimes with a phone that just isn't even possible. Y'all are the only ones that get this little preview. I haven't even posted anything on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Which is completely surprising I know. But I'm pretty sure I'll be taking some pictures on Sunday afternoon, so maybe I'll post an extra blog on Sunday to talk about/show you pictures (or maybe y'all will have to wait until Monday, I don't know for sure just yet).
We also took Oscar to the vet for the first time. He was soo good. And such a hit with the ladies. Men, take note, if you're reading that is. Oscar really didn't need to go to the vet for any specific reason, like shots or deworming, but I just wanted to make sure he was completely healthy. And he is. Minus being a little overweight. I like his chubbiness, but from now on we're keeping him on a strict diet. He's already 11.8 pounds and he's only 6 weeks! He just inhales the food too. Dad and I took him on a walk down to the mailbox after we got back and he walked all the way there and all the way back. I'm pretty proud of my little fur ball. That's rather far to walk. I honestly expected to carry him at some point. But nope. And then when he got back he still wanted to play! (Once we got him calmed down though he pretty much passed out.) He slept on the porch while I painted (he even slept at my feet half of the time!).
Will even approves of Oscar! (The world is coming to an end!!)
As I was editing the photos I took from our walk to the mailbox, I realized that I definitely underestimated Jack. He definitely is growing up and tolerating Oscar's puppy antics because he loves us and wants to please his family! That's so adorable. Maybe having another dog around will help him settle down some... Eh, one can only wish.
P.S. I know you want a picture by picture narration (so I'm giving it, you're welcome).
Dad puts Jack's leash on like normal, but Oscar decides that the leash is his new chew toy.
Light bulb!
Oscar should walk Jack! (And with Dad's help he gets the leash back in his mouth)
Notice Jack is looking over at Dad like "do I really have to?"
Jack decides he must put up with this foolishness.
Oscar wants to take his new toy to his bed... which is in front of him.
And Jack follows!
(p.s. I'm actually sitting on a side of Oscar's bed which is why my foot is showing)
While Oscar is content chewing on the leash, Jack really wants to go on his walk!
We had to make a few stops on our way down the driveway.
But Oscar noticed Jack was sitting so he thought he needed to sit too!
So cute!
It's like follow the leader!
This is the new normal around here.
Jack normally sleeps on the porch and tonight Oscar was other there keeping him company! He wasn't curled up next to him but he was still on the porch instead of in the garage like he has been staying. I think they are bonding yet. You can't see Oscar in this picture but he is pretty much under the green table.
Title: "You Showed Me" by The Turtles
I found this song through this short film last summer and now all of the songs in the film remind me of summer. I listen to them all the time to get these images back into my head.
