Isn't Keeping Out the Doubt and the Disbelief

I realized today that I haven't even begun to read a single book on the extensive list of "Books To Read" I made a few months back.  I started the list because I wanted to improve my own writing skills, but the older books are so much more dense than I remember.  They take a little while to get through them and I'm used to finishing a book in a day or two (maybe a week).  So I started reading more fun books (starting when I bought this impulse buy on the way home from Hawaii and I loved it).  I think I'm going to go back to my original list.  I want to educate myself and really break down the book like I used to have to do in class.  (I just need to figure out how to do that one again.)
I've been struggling with my pseudo-novel story in progress.  I'm such a character driven reader and writer.  The dialogue is usually one of the better parts of my story, but I'm struggling to figure out how to change things about my story (very basic things... like where they are in the world, what they do for a living, how old they are).  I want to complete it, but maybe it would be better if I just started over. It definitely would be easier.  But I love my characters.  Not to mention that I've already written roughly over nine chapters and close to 170+ pages.  Then again my college advisor did say that you have a certain amount of bad writing you just have to write out.  So maybe starting over wouldn't be so bad.
Either way, I'm hoping to read a good bit more than I've been reading (or maybe keep it at the same pace that I've been going).  I've pretty much quit watching TV so that I can read and do my jobs.  I've gotten to the point where I only watch TV when I'm editing and then it's mostly for the background noise.  Oh, wait.  I forgot I watched a couple of shows the other night on my computer.  I forgot, but if the pilots you can watch early are any indication of Fall's new TV lineup I won't be missing much.
